National Health Service
England is world-renowned for their universal health care system. This system is called the National Health Service, or NHS. The NHS came about in 1948 in the aftermath of World War II to help anyone who had war injuries at home or overseas. England's health care is completely free, with a few exceptions that become out-of-pocket costs:
The NHS is run on a two-tier system. There are General Practice Physicians (GPs) who work locally at a about a 1:1000 doctor-to-patient ratio. Patients have the freedom to choose their own GP regardless of where they live. The second aspect of NHS is hospitals. Hospitals receive significantly more funding than GPs and therefore have facilities of high quality.
Care in England is by law impartial to any previous conditions, race, gender, or age. It is also available through any NHS-funded outlet, meaning that any hospital citizens go to will have records on file with equal care. The NHS has enormous popular support (many polls reveal a satisfaction rate from 70-92%), despite English press always criticizing it.
